If you only own one blocker, make it this one. At 1.5″, the Nano 9 is the everyday workhorse — the right size for most vegetables, herbs, and larger flowers, from tomatoes and peppers to zinnias and cosmos. Nine blocks a press is a comfortable batch for a home garden or a market grower’s side trays.

Because each block is open on every side, roots air-prune at the edge rather than spiraling into a root-bound plug. The result is a sturdy, fibrous rootball that transplants without the usual stall — seedlings keep right on growing after they go in the ground.

The Nano 9 presses the same 1.5″ block as our Mini 27 and Commercial 72, so your timing and spacing carry straight over as you scale up. It fits in just under a 5″ square footprint, works with the trays and kitchen containers you already have, and its stamped permanent dibbles leave a clean seed dimple in every block.

Made from stainless steel in southeast Michigan — simple, ergonomic, and built to buy once. In stock, ships in 1–2 business days. Please wear gloves while blocking to keep hands safe.

Why growers reach for a Swift Blocker

A soil-blocked seedling at transplant time — dense roots, air-pruned at the edges, no circling
A soil-blocked seedling at transplant time — dense roots, air-pruned at the edges, no circling

Roots that move without the shock

When a root hits the open edge of a block, air stops it — so seedlings build a dense, fibrous rootball instead of circling. They transplant like they barely noticed the move — most starts ready to plant out in about four weeks.

Seed before you eject

Sow the whole tray, dust with vermiculite, then press the blocks out. Faster than dip-and-press blockers — and impossible with them.

Kind to your hands

The lift-to-eject action skips the squeeze — no strain on the hand or wrist. Growers with carpal tunnel or arthritis tell us it's the difference that lets them keep sowing.

Made once, in Michigan

Stainless steel, handmade in southeast Michigan. A buy-it-once tool built to outlast a shelf of plastic trays.

I absolutely love my nano 9 swift blocker! It is so much easier on my hands and shoulders than the other kind I tried. It made very nice soil blocks that fit nicely in my 1020 tray. My seedlings are popping up now. It is built very solid and will probably last forever. In the future I would like to get a bigger one too. I also want to add that they have excellent customer service. I emailed them and they responded quickly. I accidentally ordered the wrong size scraper to go with the nano 9 (I ordered the one with 4 holes instead of 3) and they were so awesome and sent out the correct one that goes with it for seeding. I will definitely be ordering again from this company and a few of my family members love my soil blocker and will be ordering one too.

I’ve been thinking of purchasing a nano swift blocker since they were first released. I can’t believe I waited so long but am so happy I finally purchased! The 9 blocks are the perfect size, so easy to make, and the workmanship is absolutely incredible!

This is my first soil blocker purchase. I looked at every soil blocker on the market before I decided on the Swift Nano. Here's why, no fussy moving parts to jam up or break, made in the USA, my purchase supports a small business, and IT'S SO EASY TO USE to use, just fill, press and release. I was prepared to fuss over getting the hang of making successful soil blocks but it was just so easy. I used Coast of Maine soil and the blocks were perfect. The Nano at 1.5" sized blocks is a great size for the backyard gardener. Five Stars!
